Prerequisites

It is the aim of the School to attract all students whose primary intent, motives and principles are to restore health by Natural Methods to relieve pain and prolong lives. It is not the intention of the School to discount those who have not undertaken studies at a tertiary level. Bridging courses are available to assist those who have not had this opportunity.

Admission Requirements and Application Procedures

(a) Certificate IV Levels have NO entry requirement but applicants must be 16 years old.

(b) For Diploma or Advanced Diploma Programmes the H.S.C. or equivalent in recognised studies is recommended.

(c) Mature age entry, 21 years or over at the time of enrolment, are also eligible.

(d) If seeking exemptions, a completed Recognition of Prior Learning Form and appropriate official transcripts and documentation must also be submitted.

Prospective students wishing to apply for admission to H.S.A./I.C.C.M. must submit to the Director of Admissions a properly completed Application Form.

Bachelor of Human Health Science Degrees

The course of studies the student enrolled in initially with H.S.A./I.C.C.M. must be completed to Advanced Diploma Level together with Charles Sturt University Health Sciences before the student is awarded the Degree. (Details will be provided on application.)

To Qualify for Admission

Students must be capable of performing at a high level of competency in all phases of theoretical and practical training. To this end applicants should be of sound mind, body, enjoy co-ordination of both upper limbs for the performance of manual therapies where applicable.

Persons with a disability will not be denied admission but the School would like to know the extent of the disability at the time of submission of enrolment so that they can be guided as to the most appropriate Course for them to choose.

Tuition Fees

All tuition fees are due and payable at the time of enrolment in accordance with the current Fee Schedule. Fees can be paid by cheque, Bankcard, Visa, Mastercard, Diners, American Express or money order.

Paying by Monthly Instalments

Reminder notices will not be sent when fees are due. The student is responsible for using payment advice slips which are supplied with receipt on enrolment.

Acceptance

Acceptance of fees paid and the issue of a payment statement by the School indicates the Student agrees to return completed assessments on time and to continue to pay course instalments (where applicable).

Full Time and Part Time Course Requirements

Students should complete their learning resource/s in either full time (minimum) or part time (maximum) as stated on the current fee schedule. Advanced Diplomas (FT 4yrs - PT 6yrs), Diplomas (FT 3yrs - PT 6yrs), Certificate IV (FT 18mths - PT 2yrs). We cannot extend completion dates beyond part time requirements due to accreditation.

Refund Policy

In recognition of and in compliance with Government requirements for a cooling off period, Health Schools Australia's refund policy allows for a 10 day period from date of receipt of course material (28 days in the case of enrolments from outside Australia), whereby the student must return the course material in excellent order.

In such instances, a refund of monies paid will be refunded to the student less the stated non-refundable Enrolment Fee and RPL fee (if applicable) for the course. An administration fee of 10% of the learning resource will be deducted in the case of single learning resource enrolments.

Should a student wish to withdraw after the 10 day cooling off period, a full explanation of the reasons for returning the Course should be set out in writing to the Registrar. Specific conditions will apply as follows:-

(1) If a student has enrolled in a professional programme and is paying on terms to complete the course, while a contractual agreement may be waived they will be required to retain all course material they are holding at that date. The School does not recycle second hand course material.

(2) If a student paying on a Learning Resource basis decides to discontinue outside of the 10 Day cooling off period, no refund will be given because:-

(a) The Student is under no further financial obligation.

(b) The Student has the option of completing the Learning Resource and obtaining a Statement of Attainment.

(3) Those students who have paid the Yearly Fee for any professional programme and decide to discontinue outside the 10 days cooling off period will be required to submit a full explanation of the reasons for withdrawing from the course as mentioned. All course material will remain the property of the student. The student will have the option to complete certain units in order to gain a Statement of Attainment should they wish to do so.

Assessments

If a student fails to submit an assessment on time without notifying the School of the reasons, it will jeopardize their student status. Should a student for any reason lose their student status and is subsequently reinstated, fees at the time of re-enrolment will apply. A reinstatement fee will also apply.

Learning Resources - Copyright - Substitutions

H.S.A./I.C.C.M. courses must not be copied resold, changed, altered or advertised by any student, except with the written permission of the Principal. The School will vigorously pursue legally any attempt to infringe copyright laws as they pertain to all forms of intellectual property. The School reserves the right to substitute or change textbooks, change content or Learning Resource structure at any time, without notice, should textbooks become unavailable or go out of print. Every effort however, is made to substitute such materials with the best available.

Tuition Increases

The Board of H.S.A. reserves the right to increase tuition and fees whenever deemed necessary and every effort will be made to advise students if and when this may occur.

The fees shown in the schedule cover all charges relating to learning resources, reference texts and tutor marking services in the learning resources listed. Some tapes and CDs that are recommended as resource options may incur a rental fee.

COSTS NOT INCLUDED IN FEES :- The costs in relation to postage of assessments to and from the school, seminars, intensives, extra tutorials, practical sessions, holistic assessments are met by the student at the time they are undertaken. Estimated rates are available on application. The above items are not included as the different state seminars have differing running costs and postage varies across Australia and oversees.

Note: Students are expected to purchase their own equipment for clinical skills e.g. stethoscope, sphygmomanometer etc.

Student Indemnity Insurance

This fee is mandatory and payable by Students before beginning Seminars and/or work experience for Clinical Hours. Without this payment students will not be cleared for practical training and refused entry. This fee is not included in learning resource payment.

Financial Responsibility

All outstanding debts to H.S.A. must be cleared promptly, and the student be considered in good financial standing before being permitted to undertake Final Holistic Assessments. The School reserves the right to withdraw tuition from any student who does not comply with these terms of enrolment and any decision of the Board will be regarded as final.

Final Holistic Assessments

On completion of all learning resource assessments and final written assessments, the student will be required to complete a final Holistic Assessment where emphasis is on technical competence (performing the procedures correctly) and professionalism. After successful completion of the Holistic Assessment they will be granted their qualification. The fee for the Final Holistic Assessment is $75.

Disclaimer

Every attempt is made to ensure all information from the School and its staff is accurate and correct however, the School will not be held liable in respect of any information, instruction or advice provided by the School, the Principal or anyone connected with the School. This releases the school from and against all and any liability, actions and claims of whatsoever nature in connection with, or arising from any such information, instruction or advice given by any student or ex-student, whether the directions given in the learning resource are followed or not. The learning resources are given as advice and instruction and anyone carrying out treatment under these directions must accept full responsibility for such consultation and/or treatment.

Warning

Students should not practice before graduation, (except under supervision of a qualified person as part of their clinical training). Students should be aware that if they practice before completion of their qualification they are risking a claim for damages as an unqualified person and should this eventuate the School will not support them in a Court of Law.

Grievances

This policy is to confirm that any complaint and/or grievance is dealt with in a timely manner. Health Schools Australia have processes in place for course participants to lodge complaints and/or grievances in relation to any matter other than academic decisions in relation to a H.S.A. course or service. The grievance procedure allows for;

- An informal approach to the person with whom the participant has the complaint/grievance.

-An opportunity for the person to formally present his or her case.

- A facilitator who has not been involved with the grievance to review the complaint/grievance.

- An independent review by an external grievance consultant or appropriate body.

All complaints and/or grievances are recorded and reviewed at Management Review Meetings. Results of grievances are communicated in writing to the participant.

Appeals Policy

This policy is to confirm any appeal is dealt with in a timely manner. H.S.A. have processes in place for course participants enrolled in a course seeking appeal against an academic decision or other procedural matter in relation to a Health Schools Australia course. The appeal allows for;

- An informal approach to the course facilitator.

- An opportunity for the person to formally present his or her case.

- A facilitator who has not been involved in the original decisions.

- An independent review by an external appeal consultant.

All appeals are recorded and reviewed at Management Review Meetings. Results of grievances are communicated in writing to the participant.

AUSTUDY Students

If you are considering Austudy/Abstudy, please appreciate that you will be subject to Centrelink's timetable i.e. full time studies. If Centrelink approves 25% workload due to your special circumstances, please advise the School. This fact needs to be fully appreciated before enrolment.

Disclaimer:
H.S.A. will not be responsible if Austudy/Abstudy students fail to meet their study requirements by Centrelink.
