The Total Wellness Centre

Currently Wellness Centres abound in cities and towns alike, across the country. "Wellness" is a relatively new world in health circles, first coined in the 1960’s in the U.S.A. it has only recently surfaced in Australia over the last five to ten years and in most people’s mind is just another "buzz word" for good health. True Wellness espouses a clear philosophy and specific principles that are much broader and deeper than most people running these centres appreciate.

Dr. Derig pioneered the first Wellness Courses in Australia in 1987 having had the privilege of meeting Dr. John Travis an early American pioneer of Wellness and author of one of the main texts on the subject, some years earlier.

The Total Wellness Centre on the Gold Coast was established some years ago to educate the public and at the same time evolve true Wellness principles as a role model for HSA Graduates. This evolution is continuing and will continue for some years yet, as this new paradigm in patient centred health care as it broadens its terms of reference to embrace such elements as relationships, family, the spiritual, work and leisure, lifestyle, environment etc. The Wellness practitioner of the future will not just treat disease but will be expected to be a specialist in healing and all its many dimensions as well as a motivator, facilitator and teacher. This is the challenge the pioneers of Wellness face, those who are excited by such a challenge are invited to join us and help shape the Medicine of the future.

Dedication to service Hands-On-Health Centres

Health Schools, in the tradition of its founder, has a continuing commitment of service to both the community and the profession. To this end Dr. Derig is constantly encouraging students/graduates to educate the public in the principles and practise of Natural Medicine and the importance of restoration and maintenance of good health as espoused by his multi-disciplined Wellness Centres that he has conducted over 39 years, and through Hands-On-Health Centres established for the marginalised and socially disadvantaged persons.
